How to clean coarse bubble diffusers?

Aug 23, 2025

1. Preparatory Preparations

First, shut off the air supply and disconnect the equipment to ensure safe and pressure-free operation. After removing the diffuser, inspect the surface and bubble outlet for dirt. Prepare a soft-bristled brush, specialized cleaning agents, and other tools. Avoid using hard tools such as steel wool to avoid scratching the stainless steel surface.

2. Physical Cleaning of Surface Dirt

First, rinse the diffuser with clean water to remove loose dust. For impurities such as sediment, biofilm, etc., gently scrub the bubble outlet and crevices with a soft-bristled brush, ensuring that the brush follows the grain to minimize damage. During cleaning, be careful to protect the sealing components and avoid pulling them too hard, which may degrade the seal.

3. Chemical Cleaning for Stubborn Dirt

Use a neutral or slightly alkaline specialized cleaning agent, dilute it appropriately, and soak the diffuser in it. Once the dirt has softened, use a soft-bristled brush to further clean. Avoid using strong acids or bases to prevent corrosion of the stainless steel or affect the stability of the device. After cleaning, rinse any residual cleaning agent thoroughly with clean water.

4. Perform a Comprehensive Inspection After Cleaning

Check that the bubble outlet is unobstructed and unblocked, that the stainless steel surface is free of scratches or corrosion, and that components such as the gasket are intact. Air-dry the cleaned diffuser or wipe it dry with a clean cloth to ensure no residual moisture before installing it. This prevents moisture from entering the air supply system and affecting performance.

5. Establish a Regular Cleaning and Maintenance Schedule

Determine the cleaning interval based on the water quality of the application scenario. Reduce the cleaning interval appropriately in environments with poor water quality or high biological activity. Record the equipment status and cleaning results after each cleaning to identify potential problems and implement preventive measures. Standardized cleaning extends the equipment's lifespan and ensures stable aeration efficiency.
