How to improve the processing capacity of screw press sludge dewatering machine

Jul 09, 2025

To improve the sludge processing capacity of the screw press sludge dewatering machine, we can start with the following aspects:

1. Optimize equipment operating parameters
Control the amount of sludge inlet: According to the equipment specifications and sludge characteristics, stabilize the amount of sludge inlet in an appropriate range to avoid sudden changes in load. For example, if the rated processing capacity of the equipment is 5 tons per hour, the amount of sludge inlet can be controlled between 4.5 and 5.2 tons to prevent equipment blockage and poor treatment effect due to excessive sludge inlet.

Adjust the screw speed: For different sludges, the optimal screw speed is determined by experiments. For municipal sludge, the dehydration effect is good when the speed is 20 to 30 revolutions per minute; for industrial sludge, the speed may need to be adjusted to 15 to 20 revolutions per minute.

2. Improve sludge pretreatment
Add flocculant: Select the appropriate flocculant and dosage. Municipal sludge generally uses cationic polyacrylamide (PAM), and the dosage is 3-5 kg per ton of dry sludge; industrial sludge needs to choose anionic or non-ionic PAM according to its properties, and the dosage is determined by experiments.

Sludge conditioning: For difficult-to-dewater sludge, chemical conditioning is used, adding ferric chloride, lime, and other agents to change the sludge structure, reduce specific resistance, and improve dewatering performance. For example, after adding 2%-5% lime to some industrial sludge, the dewatering effect is significantly improved.

3. Strengthen equipment maintenance
Regularly clean the equipment: At the end of daily operation, use a high-pressure water gun to rinse the filter and spiral shaft to remove sludge residue and prevent clogging. Arrange a deep chemical cleaning once a month, using a 2%-3% citric acid solution to remove stubborn dirt.

Timely replacement of wearing parts: Regularly check the wear of wearing parts such as filter screens and spiral blades, and replace them in time if the wear exceeds a certain degree. When the filter mesh aperture becomes larger and the spiral blade thickness is reduced by 1/3, it needs to be replaced to maintain the performance of the equipment.

4. Optimize equipment design
Improve the screw structure: use a variable diameter and variable pitch screw to increase the compression ratio of the pressing area and improve the dewatering efficiency. The new design screw can increase the solid content of the mud cake after dewatering by 2-3 percentage points.

Reasonably adjust the filter gap: adjust the filter gap width according to the size of the sludge particles. When processing sludge with small particles, narrow the filter gap to 0.3-0.4 mm; when the particles are large, widen it to 0.5-0.6 mm.
