Application fields of MBBR sewage treatment plants

Sep 04, 2024

MBBR sewage treatment plants are widely used in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment and other fields, including the following aspects:
Municipal sewage treatment: covers projects such as raising the standard, raising the volume, and raising the standard and raising the volume at the same time, and can be used for sewage treatment plants of various levels of water volume, including small, medium, large and extra-large sewage treatment plants. For example, the municipal sewage is upgraded to meet the Class A standard stably, and some projects even achieve the surface Class IV water standard.

Enhanced nitrogen and phosphorus removal: It can achieve the simultaneous enhanced removal of nitrogen and phosphorus, which can be used in the case of low requirements for total phosphorus (tp) in the biochemical stage effluent, and break through the limitation of the original process on the removal of total nitrogen (tn).

Industrial wastewater treatment: It is suitable for pretreatment of industrial wastewater such as petrochemical, printing and dyeing, leather, pharmaceutical, papermaking, and comprehensive wastewater in industrial parks, and strengthens the removal of organic matter. Its load is more than 2-3 times that of traditional processes. For example, a two-stage MBBR series process is used to treat organic production wastewater from a semiconductor factory. Under certain conditions, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal rate can reach 60%-85%.

Dealing with extreme water quality: It can withstand extreme water quality conditions such as low temperature, oligotrophy, high toxicity, and high chloride ions. The MBBR biofilm has a long mud age, which is conducive to the enrichment of nitrifying bacteria and the screening of related efficient bacteria under special water quality conditions. It can achieve low-temperature treatment of 6℃ or even 3℃; it can be used for sewage treatment with low C/N or micro-polluted water treatment; it can also meet the denitrification treatment of chloride ion content exceeding 5000-10000mg/L.

Underground sewage treatment plant: Underground sewage treatment plant has the advantages of good social and environmental benefits, less land, and less noise, which is one of its development trends. MBBR process can effectively reduce the capacity of biochemical pools, and the investment cost is relatively low and the operation and maintenance are simple. Through the follow-up injection of fillers, MBBR can solve the problem of upgrading underground sewage treatment plants. No long-term civil engineering needs to be reserved during construction, saving initial investment costs.

Decentralized sewage treatment: MBBR-based integrated equipment can adapt to the characteristics of decentralized sewage treatment, such as small land occupation, impact resistance, low temperature resistance, low sludge production, simple operation and maintenance, etc. It has begun to be used in decentralized point source pollution treatment in some areas and has achieved good results.

In addition, MBBR sewage treatment plants can also be used for sewage treatment where the influent is greatly affected by trace pollutants such as estrogen endocrine disruptors. For example, a sewage treatment plant in Sichuan has a total design scale of 120,000 m³/d. Due to limited land use and the influent is greatly affected by estrogen endocrine disruptors, it uses the MBBR process based on A²/O and achieves good treatment results.
