Feed Inlet
The wet material, such as sludge from a wastewater treatment plant, is fed into the dewatering screw press through a feed inlet. This inlet is designed to allow a continuous and controlled flow of the material into the machine. The material enters the screw conveyor at the low - pressure end of the device.


Screw Conveyor
Inside the press, a screw conveyor is the main driving component. The screw has a helical shape and rotates within a cylindrical casing. As the screw rotates, it pushes the wet material along the length of the conveyor. The pitch of the screw may gradually decrease or the diameter may gradually increase towards the discharge end. This design feature causes the volume available for the material to decrease, thereby increasing the pressure on the material.


Filtration and Water Separation
The cylindrical casing surrounding the screw conveyor is usually perforated or made of a porous material. As the wet material is pushed along by the screw and the pressure increases, the water in the material is forced out through the perforations or pores in the casing. This is the primary mechanism of water separation. The separated water then drains out of the press and can be collected and treated further if necessary.


Volute Chamber
Some dewatering screw presses have a volute chamber at the discharge end. The volute chamber further compresses the material. As the material enters the volute chamber, the space available for it becomes even more restricted, increasing the pressure exerted on the material. This additional compression helps to squeeze out more water and achieve a higher degree of dewatering. The shape of the volute chamber is designed to gradually increase the pressure on the material as it moves towards the discharge outlet.


Discharge
After the water has been separated and the material has been dewatered to the desired extent, the dried or semi - dried material is discharged from the press through a discharge outlet. The discharge outlet is located at the end of the volute chamber or the screw conveyor. The dewatered material can then be further processed, disposed of, or used for other purposes depending on its nature.


Speed and Pressure Control
The operation of the volute dewatering screw press can be adjusted by controlling the speed of the screw rotation and the overall pressure within the system. By varying the speed of the screw, the rate at which the material is pushed through the press and the degree of compression can be controlled. Additionally, pressure sensors and control mechanisms can be used to monitor and adjust the pressure in the volute chamber and along the screw conveyor to optimize the dewatering process for different types of materials and dewatering requirements.
