How to achieve the stirring effect of coarse bubble diffuser for aeration tanks

1. Lay the foundation for equipment structure
The coarse bubble diffuser has a simple structure and is usually composed of a perforated tube, a porous plate or an aeration head with large pores. There are large-diameter holes distributed around the perforated tube. When compressed air is ejected from these holes at high speed, it is like installing multiple "small fountains" in the water. The water flow is strongly pushed out from the holes, causing violent disturbances in the local water body. The same is true for porous plates and aeration heads with large pores. The large-area pores provide many outlets for air, prompting a large number of bubbles to flow into the water in a short time. These bubbles, as a source of disturbance, create the initial conditions for the stirring effect.


2. Gas characteristics drive stirring
The diameter of the bubbles produced by the coarse bubble diffuser is greater than 5 mm. Compared with the tiny bubbles produced by the microporous aerator, they rise faster in the water. The rapidly rising bubbles are like "pistons" moving upward, pushing the surrounding water upward together. Since the bubbles are not evenly distributed in the aeration tank, the water flow driven by the rising bubbles at different positions forms speed differences and direction differences, which in turn produces circulation and mixing of water flow. Moreover, a large number of bubbles continue to burst during the rising process. The energy released at the moment of this burst further aggravates the turbulence of the water body, making the stirring effect more significant.

3. The effect of water flow expansion
When the coarse bubbles drive the local water body to rise, the surrounding water body quickly replenishes due to the pressure difference, forming a large-scale water flow circulation. At the bottom of the aeration tank, the water flow diffuses from the bubble generation area to the surroundings, and near the water surface, the water flow converges from the periphery to the bubble rising area. This circulating water flow can not only evenly disperse the dissolved oxygen and microorganisms in the aeration area to the entire aeration tank, but also effectively prevent the precipitation of activated sludge, organic debris, fiber and other substances. For example, in the treatment of papermaking wastewater, the circulating water flow continuously flushes the bottom of the pool to avoid fiber accumulation; in aquaculture ponds, the water flow circulation makes the water temperature and dissolved oxygen in every corner of the pond evenly distributed, creating a good living environment for aquatic organisms.
