How does MBBR system screens work?

The working principle of MBBR system screens is mainly based on the following aspects:

1. Physical interception
MBBR System Screens are usually made of materials with a certain porosity, such as stainless steel screens or other corrosion-resistant porous materials. The pore size is carefully designed to allow water and air in sewage to pass freely, but can effectively intercept biological fillers in the MBBR system. These fillers usually have a certain particle size range, and the pores of the screen are smaller than the particle size of the filler, thereby preventing the filler from flowing out of the reactor with the water flow, and achieving the fixation and retention of the filler in the reactor.


2. Water flow distribution and rectification
In the MBBR system, the water flow state of the incoming water may be more turbulent. MBBR System Screens can play a role in rectification and uniform water distribution. When sewage enters the reactor through the screen, the screen blocks and disperses the water flow, so that the water flow is evenly distributed on the cross-section of the reactor, avoiding the short-circuit phenomenon caused by the concentration of water flow in certain areas. This ensures that the sewage can be evenly in contact with the biological filler, providing a stable and uniform substrate supply for microorganisms, which is conducive to improving the removal efficiency of pollutants.

3. Aeration assistance and bubble dispersion
MBBR systems usually require aeration to provide the oxygen required by microorganisms and promote the full mixing of sewage and fillers. MBBR System Screens can work in conjunction with the aeration system to assist the aeration process. When the air is discharged from the aeration device, it encounters the screen during the rise process, which cuts and disperses the bubbles, making them smaller and more evenly distributed in the water body. This helps to increase the gas-liquid contact area, improve the oxygen transfer efficiency, and provide a good aerobic environment for the growth and metabolism of microorganisms.


4. Prevent debris from entering
Sewage may contain various debris, such as suspended solids, fibers, hair, etc. MBBR System Screens, as the inlet barrier of the reactor, can intercept these larger debris and prevent them from entering the reactor. This can prevent debris from clogging or entanglement with the biological filler, affecting the normal growth and activity of the biofilm, and also reduce the risk of damage to other equipment in the reactor by debris, ensuring the normal operation of the system.
